For investments, Michael Tran, our Founder,  is a SEC registered investment advisor representative (IAR) of Portfolio Medics, a SEC Registered Investment Adviser (IA), which is ranked by USA Today as the top 1% of investment advisory firms in the US in 2024, currently managing more than $500 million in client investments. .  We are not State registered because it’s only for smaller firms with $110 Million or less in assets under management.  We are SEC (Federal) Registered.  You can rest assured about the professional work from our IA.  The Asset managers at our firm oversee investment portfolios, which may consist of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and other financial instruments. They make investment decisions based on their client’s goals and risk tolerance. Our RIA works with third-party custodians. That means that your assets are held by an independent third-party custodian, such as  TD Ameritrade or Charles Schwab which is the largest investment services firm, with around $8.52 trillion in client assets.  We work with multiple outside money managers to bring sophisticated investment
strategies within reach of everyday investors

Michael distinguishes himself as a rare financial advisor holding licenses in Life, Accident & Health, or Sickness insurance, as well as the coveted title of SEC registered Investment Advisor Representative (IAR). His unique qualifications empower him to guide clients toward their financial objectives through a diverse range of life insurance solutions, including Mortgage Protection, Death & Living Benefits, IUL (Indexed Universal Life), Annuities, Long Term Care, and Disability Insurance. Furthermore, Michael offers expertise in investment and portfolio management, encompassing stocks, bonds, ETFs, REITs, and more. His comprehensive approach extends to providing strategic financial planning to both pre-retired and retired individuals, as well as business owners, all with the aim of facilitating total wealth optimization and establishing dependable income sources for retirement. OUR JOURNEY AND INSPIRATIONS

Professionally, Michael came from a strong foundation in computer science and mathematics. These fields have instilled in him a logical and analytical approach to problem-solving. When graduating from high school, Michael was selected as the best math student in the class at Costa Mesa High School and he went on to study Biochemistry at UCLA before pursuing Computer Science at Cal Poly Pomona College. With over 25 years of experience as a software engineer, He had also built and led his own consulting software company as its CEO.

So, what led him to financial advising, and why is he so driven to share these financial strategies? About five years ago, Michael found himself deeply interested in investing, financial planning, and minimizing taxes. Like many of you, he realized that a significant portion of his income was going straight to Uncle Sam at the IRS, even though he was contributing the maximum limit to his 401(k) — a tax-deferred account that would eventually be subject to taxes, potentially at higher rates in the future.

This concern drove him to attend numerous financial seminars and events to better understand how I could optimize my financial situation. He saw the potential of these financial tools, particularly in how the wealthy leverage them to minimize taxes. Therefore, he studied and became licensed in life insurance that could empower me to help the people around him.  Michael started his own independent financial advisory firm because it was the only way for him to provide his clients with comprehensive, well-informed financial solutions rather than just push products for focus on recruitment like in many other agencies that he tried to join.  He also pursued additional security licensing to become a fiduciary financial advisor, a role that requires a higher standard of care and a commitment to putting clients’ best interests first.  More importantly, with multiple different licenses, Michael can offer his clients the optimal strategies for their situations in both life insurance products or stock/mutual funds investments.  

Over the years, as Michael have helped numerous clients, he’s noticed an urgent need for greater financial literacy and effective, personalized strategies. Financial products and plans often involve complex calculations and require careful design to succeed. High fees and commissions from poorly and incorrectly constructed plans can severely impact your wealth, sometimes costing you or your family extra millions over time. Even if the market performs well, excessive costs can erode the potential of your investments.

As a fiduciary advisor, my approach is distinct. Michael focuses on uncovering areas where clients might be unknowingly and unnecessarily losing money and then work to reposition those funds to secure a more stable financial future — all without taking on unnecessary risk. My goal is to tailor strategies that align with your unique needs and goals.

Beyond his professional pursuits, another profound source of motivation for Michael is his unwavering admiration for his father, Dr. Chon Tran. Although Dr. Chon lost his father at the age of 10 and had to live far away from his family, but he rose to success, became a military medical Major and was sent to the US for 6 months to study his specialty. He also often wrote articles to share knowledge with fellow doctors in Vietnam. After the 1975 incident, he lost everything but still tried to rebuild, becoming the director and chief doctor of the laboratory department at a big hospital in Thu Duc. In addition to his regular job, he also opened his own clinic, working until late at night to support the community.  He was loved by the people not only for his talent and modesty but also for his kindness; he often examined patients for free, gave out medicine and even supported transportation costs for poor patients.  When he was approved to settle in the US in 1991 under the Humanitarian Operation (HO) program, he left behind his career, family, friends and even those he had always helped to start over for the sake of his children’s future. In the US, he did not hesitate to start over, completed the Doctor of Chiropractic program and graduated as valedictorian at the age of 58.   His father’s unwavering dedication and selflessness, both in caring for his family and aiding the less fortunate, continue to serve as an enduring wellspring of inspiration for Michael.   Although Michael cannot become a doctor to save lives like his father, he aspire to become a “financial doctor,” helping people create a secure financial future for themselves and their families.
